T.I. arrested

Oh boy… T.I. just got arrested yesterday. Cops caught him buying guns and silencers and also found a couple more guns in his house. (He was supposed to perform in BET award show)

I know, I know. Some of you T.I. fans must be saying that, the cops set him up, by putting a snitch around him as a bodyguard. (Apparently, one of T.I.’s bodyguard is working for the police. And the bodyguard was the one who also approached T.I. to buy the guns.) So I could see this whole thing as a setup.

But at the end of the day, T.I. said “yes” and “bring them to my house”. So, why did he buy them in the first place? Can’t rappers just learn and be smart? When you reach a certain level of status, you just have to watch what you are doing. No matter Hip-Hop police exists or not. And you all claim that Hip-Hop police definitely exists. Then why you put yourself in a situation like this?

Alright. LL Cool J & Jay-Z war ain’t gonna happen…

Yup. It ain’t gonna happen people. I know it must disappointed many people, including myself. I was quite looking forward to this so-called war to come on any minute. It’s gonna be huge.

But nope, it ain’t happening. It’s official. Both of them sorta came out and cleared the air. LL Cool J admitted he was bit*hing a little but he believes he deserves the rights to bit*h at the label he “co-established” a decade ago. (Source) But he declared that no really hard feelings and he is always open to sit down and talk as businessmen do. On the other hand, Jay sees this whole thing as just another BS.

Damn… so close… why can’t they just do it for the sake of Hip-Hop fans?!

Ringtone rules

Busta sounded bitter. But he was making a point. Nowadays, bouncy beats with a catchy hook seem to rule the Hip-Hop world. “2 steps”, “This is why I am hot” or Soulja boy are only some of the good examples. You don’t even have to have spitting skill anymore. If you know how to come up with a catchy hook and an unique dance. Record labels would love you to death. Because it’s cheap to produce (FruitLoop is free), promotion budget down to nothing (Myspace & YouTube), and most importantly, you might sell a million ringtones before even your album hits the store.

Kanye vs. 50 cent war is officially over

According the 3rd week sales numbers, Kanye has won once again. Although, he only sold 1.3million copies so far which is considered disappointing. But, at least he’s achieved the “platinum” status for his album. On the other hand, going into 4th week, 50 cent is still almost 100,000 copies short. I don’t know what he has to say this time. He is not accustomed to losing. His last album “Massacre” sold 1.1million copies in 4 days and 5million copies total in U.S. alone. Where did those other 4million fans go?  This is just a perfect sign for the end of G-Unit era. Don’t expect anybody anticipating or buying the G-Unit album as well. And 50 cent might have to return to the studio to re-record some new materials for his upcoming 80% done album.

LL Cool J & Jay-Z beef pending

While we are still waiting til either one of them to drop a dis record (The latest LL Cool J’s joint isn’t a dis). Let’s talk about another one. This time, it’s pure competition of producing hit records instead rhymthing.

Timbaland plans chart showdown with Dr.Dre. One producer who he has highest respect to. (He even calls him “daddy”) This idea is inspired by the recent showdown of Kanye and 50 cent, which created trementous hype and first week sales. The showdown has also inspired another two mega-stars to go head-to-head with each other. Rumors circulating that Mariah Carey and Mary J Blige will most likely drop their upcoming albums on the same date (Source), of course it is all top executives’ idea from their record labels, knowing that the hype could benefit both parties in some way.

I personally cannot wait to see this go down. I hope this showdown starts tomorrow. Both Dr.Dre and Timbaland are the two of the most talented and influential producers of all time in Hip-Hop. (I know many would argue that Premo & J.Dilla should be the ones)

Both Dr.Dre and Timbaland put out uncountable hits, for more than 10 years. The most influential producer of the two, I’d have to say Dr.Dre. Dr.Dre not only put out hits one after another. His music has created/defined eras in different timeframe. Hardcore gangsta rap with N.W.A. in late 80s, G-Funk with Snoop Dogg in early 90s, then went on bringing in Eminem and 50 cent who later sold more albums than all other rappers have combined. Dr.Dre should rename himself to “Dr.Success” or something. Look at his past, he left Ruthless Records, they failed. He left Death Row Records at its peak, then Death Row became the Tha Row and then now “Tha Gone”. After he left Death Row, he started Aftermath Records and turned into one of the most powerful record label right now. Ain’t that some ish?

In the other hand, Timbaland never had the same success with his own records label. In fact, I would say he sucks at signing artists. Magoo or Mango? He didn’t create any particualr “era” himself as well. But I would say he is the most talented producer of the two. Although some would say, his music sounded the same the whoooolllleee time. You could probably hear the same drum or snare or something. Which I agree, you could tell if it’s a Timbaland beat or not almost like instantly (not as easy as Skateboard P tho) But he would give you something completely different everytime. His music would sound similiar but at the same time it also sound completely different (I know I don’t make sense here!) His capability of making top chart records is unquestionable. But it’s his ability to produce top chart records in different kind of music that makes him amazing. Hip-Hop, R&B and Pop, he is even going into the dance/techno kind of music too.

I really hope this showdown starts tomorrow or even tonight. I can’t wait. You know what would be better? Dr.Dre produces for Eminem, and Timbaland produces for Jay-Z. That would be crazy.

Greatest of All Time: Jay-Z vs. LL Cool J

For the past week, a lot of blogs were talking about the possibility of LL Cool J and Jay-Z are going at each other. A greatest beef of all time might begin any time soon.

How and why? It all started when Jay-Z was appointed  to be the president of Def Jam. And LL Cool J, who served Def Jam from day one, didn’t take it very well. He claimed that he refused to work under a “competitor”(Jay-Z is still a rapper afterall) and questioned Jay’s capability of promoting his current/future albums. (Source) So he left the record company mainly because of that reason, and now rumors say he has signed with G-Unit (50 cent co-produced his last Def Jam album) . So the whole thing “sorta” started from there, and a recent interview of LL Cool J “sorta” confirmed his feeling about the whole situation of Jay being the president of Def Jam. (Source)

On Jay-Z side, he never really came out and say anything about LL Cool J, he actually shows a lot of respect from time to time recognizing him as one of the greatest. Not until a recent verse on “I get money Billionaire remix” (if you still haven’t heard it then go here), where he said “I’m already a goat, next stop, the billy” stirred up some controversy. (Of course you know LL calls himself the GOAT – Greatest of All Time right) Although, Jay-Z claimed that the “I’m already a goat” line was not meant to be a dis or nothing like that. (Source) But, it sure started a lot of speculations. He also said that LL should have called him up and talk instead of handling the situation this way, and if he really wanted to go at LL he might as well go all the way.

Why are people paying so much attention about this? Well, what beef doesn’t create any attention right? (except Bow Wow vs. Romeo)

It’s because, if they really have decided to go off at each other. No doubt it will be the biggest and most entertaining/existing beef of all time. Just look at the achievements on their resumes. Let start with LL first, the lip licking/nipples showing/Ladies Love Cool James rapper, was not soft at all. And yes, he even got a permission from mama to knock you out too.  How many rappers’ careers did he destroyed? Canibus’s gone for sure. He was furious in 80s and early 90s. And what about Jay, the beef with Nas was one of the most talked beef of all time (although many think that he lost) and his genius wordplays and metaphors and pulling out stunts like displaying rivalries’ childhood pictures and stuff.

I’m sure it is going to be real interesting one and a healthy one as well. By health I mean, it is going to be all on wax type. They are both old enough and well achieved. There will no fighting in clubs or killing each other friends or nothing violence. Certainly you will not see them flashing their guns with 30 “homies” behind them somewhere on the street on any DVDs either. This is going to be pure lyrical and what the Hip-Hop might need right now.

Who killed Biggie?

According to the news, an inmate admitted he had no lied about a cop being involved in the killing of Notorious B.I.G. Which is bad. It’s already taking forever for this case to be solved. With all the controversies and stuff, this is just make the case more unsolvable.
